HM Queen Elizabeth II
1926-2022
Messages of condolence to King Charles III and the entire Royal Family from the British Jewish community
We are no longer accepting any new submissions. Thank you to everyone who sent messages.
Now I must leave the treasures of the past and turn to the future. Famous have been the reigns of our queens. Some of the greatest periods in our history have unfolded under their sceptre. Now that we have the second Queen Elizabeth, also ascending the Throne in her twenty-sixth year, our thoughts are carried back nearly four hundred years to the magnificent figure who presided over and, in many ways, embodied and inspired the grandeur and genius of the Elizabethan age.
Queen Elizabeth II, like her predecessor, did not pass her childhood in any certain expectation of the Crown. But already we know her well, and we understand why her gifts, and those of her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, have stirred the only part of the Commonwealth she has yet been able to visit. She has already been acclaimed as Queen of Canada.
We make our claim too, and others will come forward also, and tomorrow the proclamation of her sovereignty will command the loyalty of her native land and of all other parts of the British Commonwealth and Empire. I, whose youth was passed in the august, unchallenged and tranquil glories of the Victorian era, may well feel a thrill in invoking once more the prayer and the anthem, "God save the Queen!"

FZY are deeply saddened at the passing of Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II. We, along with the rest of our community, mourn her passing and send our greatest sympathies to His Royal Highness King Charles III and The Royal Family.
The service of Her Majesty goes beyond words. An inspiration to not only the British people, but to everyone all over the world. Her dedication to her role was extraordinary and her legacy will live on through her impact, not just at home, globally.
Her warm relationship with the Jewish community and commitment to interfaith relations are a testament to the Britain that has evolved and been created during her reign.
Her respect for the values of the Jewish people is something we have been particularly grateful for.
In the words of the late Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks: “Jews have deep respect for the Queen and the Royal Family. We say a prayer for them every Sabbath in synagogue. We recite a special blessing on seeing the Queen. We drink a toast to her at every communal dinner. Whether I am in America or Israel or the Far East one of the first questions I am likely to be asked is: “How was the royal wedding?” Something similar, in my experience, is true of other minority faiths in Britain. They value the Queen because they know she values them. She makes them feel not strangers in a strange land, but respected citizens at home.”The Queen is a figure from which our members have learnt and can continue to learn from. Her dedication, longevity, passion and service to her people are to be admired forever.
Thank you Ma’am
God Save The King

It is with great sadness and respect that I share the blessing of sadness on the passing of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, the only monarch I have known in my life.
Baruch Dayan HaEmetQueen Elizabeth’s extraordinary commitment to hold, preserve and lead this country and its constitution is one of the greatest achievements of our age and our nation. Her respect, encouragement and celebration of the Jewish community of the Commonwealth has always been unstinting, as it has been for so many other peoples and faith. And her commitment to her own faith has always been inspiring. It has, I think, given Her Majesty the humility and sense of duty that is at the heart of her extraordinary achievement.
To her family, our King, and all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, I share condolences and deepest sympathy,
Yours,
Rabbi Jeremy Gordon

When I heard the news I was deeply shocked. The world is changed over the last hundred years in the most dramatic ways. One important constant what’s the presence of a majesty Queen Elizabeth the second. To me she represented everything that was good and right about Great Britain and it is indeed the end of an era. So on behalf of my family I wish all the remaining members of the royal family long life free from further sorrow.
Mr Stuart Ingleby

My deepest condolences to all the Royal family after the death of perhaps our greatest example of what Monarchy contributes to a nation. I have so many memories of watching Royal occasions, from being on my father's shoulders at the Palace on the occasion of her father's coronation, cheering his Majesty on the balcony at the end of WW2 and then seeing his sombre funeral procession. I was also cheerfully waving in the rain as the coach went past on her own coronation.
I have been so conscious that I was fortunate to be born in this country and her late Majesty embodied so wonderfully all that Britain stood for.

I remember the day of 5th of December 2017 when I assisted at the burial of Her Majesty's First cousin, King Michael I of România. Several years later, I find myself in the UK completing the circle, assisting at the end of an era in another country dear to me, the United Kingdom.
My condolences to the family, and may Her eternal sleep be light.

My father met Her Majesty on two occasions, 57 years apart and I was present at Buckingham Place when the Queen awarded him his MBE. I was truly saddened when I heard the news and freely admit that I shed a tear. Her duty to this country has been insurmountable and she will be truly missed. The sympathies of our whole community go out to Prince Charles and the Royal family. LONG LIVE THE KING.
