Michael Wegier appointed as Board of Deputies Chief Executive

The Board of Deputies has appointed Michael Wegier as its new Chief Executive.

Michael, who succeeds Gillian Merron following her elevation to the House of Lords, has been working as Interim Chief Executive since April.

Michael said: “It is a privilege and an honour to have been appointed as Chief Executive. In the past few months I have enjoyed developing a close working relationship with the Officers, the Professional Team and the Deputies. I am relishing the challenge of navigating the next phase of our community’s development.”

Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl congratulated Michael on his appointment. She said: “I’m delighted Michael has accepted the post of Chief Executive. In the short time he has been with us he has demonstrated his expertise and vast experience. He is a great asset to our organisation.”

In the past, Michael has  worked as a Jewish educator, strategic planner and chief executive for Jewish organisations in the UK, Israel, and the United States. He has served as Chief Executive of the Melitz Educational Centres in Israel and two terms at UJIA, one as Director of Programme and later as Chief Executive, a position he held until 2019.
