Board of Deputies welcomes adoption of IHRA antisemitism definition

The Board of Deputies of British Jews warmly welcomes the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism by the Austrian Government. The definition was adopted at the initiative of its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Sebastian Kurz.

Senior Vice President Richard Verber said: “This is a very important step taken by a country which has faced its own difficulties with far right movements. At a time when antisemitism and hate speech is rising globally, the Austrian Government’s adoption of the IHRA working definition of antisemitism will be a helpful tool in enabling authorities there to assess attitudes which are or may be antisemitic. We hope to see other countries follow suit in the coming months and years.”
