Board of Deputies Vice President Karen Newman has welcomed Lord Mann’s recommendations to tackle antisemitism across the NHS and urged the government, NHS leaders and regulators to implement them urgently.
Lord Mann was commissioned by the former Secretary of State and the Prime Minister in October 2025 to lead an urgent review into how the NHS and its regulatory system recognises, reports, and tackles antisemitism and other forms of racism.
Commenting on the report, which is published today, Karen said: We are grateful to Lord Mann for this review and welcome both his proposed changes and the government’s commitment to implement them.
“The Board of Deputies has long made the case for many of the measures included in this report, including on training, staff accountability, uniform guidance, recording of Jewish ethnicity, and empowerment of Jewish staff networks. Several recommendations in Lord Mann’s review reinforce those made in the 2025 report of the Board of Deputies Commission on Antisemitism, which Lord Mann chaired together with Dame Penny Mordaunt.
“We will continue to press government, NHS leaders and regulators to implement these changes swiftly.
“Our public services must set the standard for confronting anti-Jewish hatred and discrimination, and we must ensure the NHS, one of our proudest national institutions, is safe and welcoming for every staff member or service user, regardless of faith or ethnicity.”
