President of the Board of Deputies Phil Rosenberg had a moving visit in Manchester when he attended the Commemoration Event for Adrian Daulby z”l and Melvin Cravitz z”l brutally murdered in the Heaton Park Yom Kippur terrorist attack last year. Earlier in the day, he also attended the stonesetting for Mr Daulby to pay the Board’s respects to Adrian’s family and community.
While in Manchester, Phil undertook a first visit to Number 10 North, and met the newly-elected Mayor of Greater Manchester Bev Craig at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority. He was joined there by Marc Levy, Chief Executive of the Jewish Representative Council of Greater Manchester and Region, Board Vice President Jeremy Michelson, and the Board’s Community Engagement Manager Sara Radivan.
Phil also hosted a lunch with Deputies from across the North West to discuss how to build on the Board’s expanded work across the regions over his term of office. Alongside Jeremy and Sara, he met with some of the Charedi community where they discussed some of the inspiring initiatives happening in that sector and how the Board might support them.

It was a deeply moving opportunity to remember Adrian Daulby and Melvin Cravitz, to stand together in solidarity and to recognise the profound impact this terrorist attack had on individuals, families and the wider community.
“It is always a privilege to visit Manchester and spend time with the local Jewish community, especially local Deputies and members of the Charedi community, hearing directly about their experiences, concerns and aspirations. I was struck by the strength, diversity and resilience of Manchester’s Jewish community, and by the commitment of so many people to ensuring that Jewish life continues to thrive.
