In recent days our community and others have been targeted with a wave of arson attacks on Jewish premises in Kenton, Hendon and Finchley, following on from the destruction of Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green, and the arrests last month of Iranian individuals suspected of conducting surveillance against Jewish community buildings. There have also been similar incidents targeting Iranian opposition media outlets and the Israeli Embassy.
Our community will not be intimidated by these cowardly acts of hate, which are an attack on Britain and its values, and on the security and cohesion of everyone in our country.
We extend our solidarity to Iranians opposed to the regime who have also been targeted. We know that all decent people will unite in support of our community and in disdain for those perpetrating and inciting these crimes.
The Board of Deputies is offering its support to all those affected within our community.
We are also engaging with police and government to ensure all necessary steps are being taken urgently to protect our community. This must include confronting with all necessary determination any individual or group, at home or abroad, seeking to incite or orchestrate antisemitic hatred or attacks.
Members of our community should follow security advice of CST and the Police.
President of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, Phil Rosenberg
