Board of Deputies Chief Executive pays tribute to Leonie Lewis

Leonie Lewis

Board of Deputies Chief Executive Michael Wegier has paid tribute to communal leader Leonie Lewis whose death was announced today.

Michael said: “I have known Leonie since she ran The Association of Jewish 6th Formers (AJ6) in the early 1980s and I was a 6th former making my way through FZY.  I followed her subsequent career in many communal organisations such as the United Synagogue and JVN. She was quite simply ‘The Professional’s Professional’. Vision driven, emotionally intelligent, utterly dedicated, and always available to assist colleagues and young professionals emerging from all parts of our community. It is astonishing to think that we will no longer see her at communal events and be able to share a conversation. But her legacy is enormous and as we wish condolences and a ‘long life’ to her family, we can share with them that Leonie was one of the people who genuinely made the world better. יהי זכרה ברוך – May her memory be a blessing.”
