The Board of Deputies is calling on synagogues and organisations around the UK to adopt one of the remaining 55 hostages who remain in Gaza.
In 2024, the Board launched the Adopt a Hostage scheme and hundreds of communities around the country “adopted” one of those who were taken captive on 7th October 2023 with the aim of publicising their plight and supporting their families.
Now, 55 hostages remain in Gaza, and tragically, we do not know how many are still alive. In light of this, we are proposing to continue the Adopt a Hostage campaign and call on all synagogues and Jewish organisation to ensure that they tell the stories of those who have been held captive for more than 600 days.
Board of Deputies President Phil Rosenberg said: “The hostages are constantly in our thoughts. For more than a year we have been holding weekly vigils at Westminster whenever Parliament is sitting and led national campaigns around Pesach, Chanukah and Succot. We need help to bring their individual stories into the national consciousness and that’s where communities can help. Let’s do everything in our power to assist their families and to bring the hostages back home.”
