Purpose
The Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) is consulting on the terms for the BBC Charter’s renewal. This survey is intended to gather the views of our Deputies and member organisations to inform a Board of Deputies submission to this consultation. This response forms part of a much wider range of engagements with the BBC to represent the concerns of the Jewish community in relation to news and other programming and editorial issues.
The official DCMS consultation is open to any individual or organisation to respond. We encourage our Deputies and member organisations to make their members aware of this opportunity. The deadline for responses is 10 March.
The Consultation Green Paper can be read here, and the Consultation questions can be seen here.
The consultation is largely multiple choice, with very limited opportunity to answer open text questions with answers of up to 200 words. Nonetheless we are keen to ensure our responses reflect the view of our members. Our responses will be primarily be on Chapter 1, “A trusted institution” and Chapter 2, “Delivering services for the public good.”
Responses to this Board of Deputies survey may be referenced (in anonymised, aggregated form) in public and private engagement when representing the views of the Board and the wider Jewish community. All responses will be analysed collectively. No individual responses will be published without consent. And personal data submitted will only be used for the sole purpose of demographic analysis of survey data.
The deadline for responding to this Board of Deputies survey is 4 March.
