Faith and civic leaders from across Greater Manchester gathered at Heaton Park Synagogue for an interfaith Seder hosted by the Board of Deputies of British Jews, one week ahead of Pesach.
The event was led by Board of Deputies Vice President Jeremy Michelson and Chief Executive Michael Wegier, and brought together senior local representatives including the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Cllr Carmine Grimshaw; Ceremonial Mayor of Salford, Cllr Heather Fletcher; Bury Council Leader Cllr Eamonn O’Brien; Vice Lord-Lieutenant Mrs Sharman Birtles; and the Dean of Manchester, Rogers Govender. Also in attendance was Deputy and Community Engagement Manager Sara Radivan.
Ahead of the Seder, guests were given a tour of the synagogue by Rabbi Daniel Walker, who spoke about the terror attack on Yom Kippur and outlined the security measures that have since been introduced.
Board of Deputies Chief Executive Michael Wegier said: “It was a privilege to welcome faith and civic leaders to Heaton Park Synagogue ahead of Pesach. In troubled times, it was heartening to see leaders from different backgrounds come together in solidarity with the Jewish community, and to hear Rabbi Walker’s moving reflections following the attack.”
