Board of Deputies welcomes Home Affairs Select Committee report on West Midlands Police

The Board of Deputies has reacted to the report of the Home Affairs Select Committee on the actions of West Midlands Police, which has been published today.

“We welcome the report of the Home Affairs Select Committee addressing the flaws involved the West Midlands Police decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans and thank them for their commitment to uncovering the truth.

“We call on the police and ministers to consider the committee’s recommendations carefully to ensure lessons are learned, including ensuring such decisions cannot in future be swayed by narrow or sectarian political agendas.

“We support the recommendation that the next permanent Chief Constable of West Midlands Police should prioritise rebuilding trust with the Jewish community. We highly value relationships of trust with the police, and we are actively supporting the local community in this process.”
