Vladimir Slepak and Vladimir Prestin

The Board is sorry to hear of the deaths of two prominent refuseniks Vladimir Slepak and Vladimir Prestin. Board President Vivian Wineman said: “I recall meeting both of them in Moscow in 1977. At that time their prospects seemed extremely bleak and we never thought they would ever realise their dreams of living in Israel. The courage they showed in the face of an adamantine totalitarian regime was awesome. I was delighted when they finally were able to leave and go to Israel, it represented a triumph of the human spirit.”

May their memories be for a blessing.
