Statement on the results of Board of Deputies’ Israel debate

Following today’s Board of Deputies’ Israel debate, President Marie van der Zyl, said:

“The current policy of the Board of Deputies, as laid down in our Jewish Manifesto, is to ‘Promote peace projects that unite communities and resist boycotts that divide communities, advocating for a permanent and comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that results in a secure Israel alongside a viable Palestinian state’. With today’s votes, the Deputies have reaffirmed that this is the policy of our organisation.”

Motion A (Proposed Adrian Cohen, Seconded Ben Crowne) read as follows: “This Board of Deputies hereby resolves to, remain an advocate for a permanent, comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, resulting in a secure Israel alongside a viable Palestinian state and to promote peace projects that unite communities and resist boycotts that divide communities.”

Results: 95 in favour/ 55 against/ 15 abstain

Motion B (Proposed Anthony Bolchover, Seconded Karen Solomon) read as follows: “This Board of Deputies will welcome any mutually agreed peace settlement between Israel and its neighbours, and adopts no position on the form such a settlement should take.”

Results: 73 in favour / 74 against / 17 abstain
