Statement on Terror Attack in Paris

The Board of Deputies of British Jews condemns the brutal terror attack which has taken place today at the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, France.

President Vivian Wineman said: “Although some details are unclear at this point, we are revolted by this attack carried out by extremists on the free press in Europe. This attack highlights the mounting challenge European governments face in tackling extremism. Our heartfelt condolences are with the families of the victims.”

The Board has also contacted its counterpart organisation in France, Conseil Représentatif des Institutions juives de France, to express solidarity with the local community who have reacted with sadness at the attack on freedom of expression.
