Minister for School Standards Nick Gibb and Lord Nash, Under Secretary for the School System, this week met Board of Deputies Chief Executive Gillian Merron and the education team for talks about issues of concern to the Jewish community.
Mr Gibb and Lord Nash both received copies of the Board of Deputies’ new book, entitled Judaism GCSE Religious Studies – The Definitive Resource, which has been warmly received by schools teaching the new GCSE syllabus.
Opening the meeting, Gillian Merron thanked ministers for their efforts in ensuring the retention of Modern and Biblical Hebrew at GCSE and A level, following a campaign by the Board of Deputies.
Gillian Merron said: “This was a further useful and practical meeting. We value our constructive working relationship with ministers and officials at the Department for Education which delivers results for the Jewish and wider community.”
Also taking part in the meeting were Board of Deputies Education Development Manager Sara Perlmutter, Education Consultant Sandra Teacher and Government Affairs Officer Dawn Waterman.
