New Pikuach handbook ‘to focus on children’s spiritual development’

The Board of Deputies Pikuach inspection service is launching revised guidelines for schools’ Jewish Studies inspections, with a strong  focus on the spiritual development of pupils in Jewish schools.

The new Pikuach Inspection Handbook, which will go out to Jewish schools, this summer, replaces one drawn up four years ago. It takes a far closer look at the Jewish Studies curriculum using a new Ofsted model that focuses on intent, implementation and impact.

Pikuach Director Jeffrey Leader said: “This new Pikuach inspection handbook will enable users to look beyond the formal classroom. It includes statements and examples of Jewish spiritual development which will help both schools and inspectors to evaluate how schools are successfully ensuring that the emotional connection necessary for effective Jewish learning is both meaningful and relevant.”
