Marie van der Zyl meets new Israeli President Isaac Herzog

Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl  had a warm meeting today with an old friend: new Israeli President Isaac Herzog
The meeting today, on Tisha B’Av, is a reminder that, while sadly antisemitism and hate are still with us, Israel is “ראשית צמיחת גאולתנו”. The “first flowering of our redemption”.
The two discussed the current situation facing the UK Jewish community, including the recent rise in antisemitism, and our hopes for peace, security, prosperity and equality for all Israelis, including Progressive Jewish communities, as well as the Alta Fixsler case.
The pair also covered the situation facing the Jewish community in Northern Ireland, where Isaac’s father Chaim, a former President of the State of Israel, was born.
