We are delighted to announce that our regional communities project, Jewish Connection, has received a grant of £25,000 from Six Point Foundation.

Six Point Foundation gives grants to improve the lives of Holocaust survivors and refugees of Jewish origin in financial need in the UK.

The grant will be used to locate and support Shoah survivors and their families across the UK.  It will involve a Board based research project as well as the development of a health and social care training package, working closely with relevant Jewish charities.

We look forward to expanding the range of services offered through Jewish Connection, and hope that you will join us in promoting the work of Six Point Foundation to your community members.  This is particularly urgent because Six Point Foundation has a limited lifetime and exists to improve survivors’ and refugees’ lives right now.

Further information on Six Point Foundation can be accessed via their website.

Six Point Foundation* is running a UK wide poster competition, open to everyone aged 7 to 107, to give people the opportunity to think about and celebrate what is – and can be – done to make the lives of all older people (age 70+) better.

Poster ideas could be about health and wellbeing, combatting loneliness, having fun, creating a safe place to live, etc.

12 winners will get a gift voucher plus a donation to an older people’s charity of their choice and their poster placed in a local care home.

There are 4 categories:
•       ages 7-11 (school years 3-6)
•       ages 12-18 (school years 7-13)
•       ages 19-69
•       ages 70+

There will be 3 winners in each category:

1st place – £200 gift voucher, £500 charity donation
2nd place – £100 gift voucher, £250 charity donation
3rd place – £50 gift voucher, £100 charity donation

Groups will receive certificates for all participants.

Posters can be submitted as drawings, paintings, photographs, collages, needlework, mosaic or digital art.

We encourage those who are interested to register online before 6pm, Thursday 18 December 2014 at www.sixpointfoundation.org.uk/poster. Competitors can enter as individuals or as part of a group.

Artwork can be submitted from 4 December 2014 until 26 February 2015. Judging will take place in early March 2015 and winners will be invited to attend a prize-giving in London before the end of March.

*Six Point Foundation is running this poster competition as a creative way to get the word about its existence and the grants it has available to improve the lives of Jewish Holocaust survivors and refugees in the UK who face difficult financial circumstances.  However, the competition itself is about showing – through art – how all older people can have a better life in the present.  Therefore, artwork should not depict the Holocaust in any way.
