Jewish community organisations this week held a meeting with the Secretary of State for Education Gavin Williamson, arranged by the Board of Deputies.
Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl led the delegation, which comprised colleagues from the Jewish representative organisations at the Department for Education’s Faith School Providers Group. Those represented were the United Synagogue, the Jewish Community Day School Advisory Board and Chinuch UK.
After the meeting Gavin Williamson said: “It was a pleasure to welcome a delegation from the Board of Deputies to the Department for Education – giving me a chance to share our vision for a world-class education in all schools with such an influential voice in the Jewish community.
“The Board’s passion for education is clear and I’m looking forward to working together to give young people the chance to fulfil their potential.”
Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl said:
“We were very pleased to meet the new Secretary of State for Education today and congratulate him on his appointment to this crucial role.
“We would like to thank the Secretary for meeting with the Board of Deputies along with the Jewish representatives on the Faith Schools Providers Group at the Department for Education, and for the opportunity to discuss key policy areas for Jewish pupils, teachers and parents.
“Education is something that the Jewish community holds dear to its heart, and we look forward to working with the Secretary addressing our shared interests in the sector.”
