Condemnation for footballer’s antisemitic conspiracy theory tweet

Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl has condemned Port Vale footballer Tom Pope’s comments on Twitter in which he used antisemitic conspiracy theories.

Marie said: “Tom Pope’s comments on social media about Rothschild control of all banks in the world shows that he subscribes to the notorious antisemitic conspiracy theory that the Rothschild family exert overwhelming control over global finances.

“We understand that both the FA and Port Vale football club are conducting investigations into Mr Pope’s tweets. We would urge them to send a clear message that the promotion of antisemitism will not be tolerated at any level of the game.”
