Board of Deputies welcomes faith declaration option on organ donation register

Board of Deputies Vice President Amanda Bowman has welcomed the launch of the faith declaration on the organ donation register which will enable religious people to ensure their beliefs are taken into account when organ donation is discussed.

Amanda said: “This measure will help preserve the religious freedom of potential organ donors.

“There is still much work to do, especially with regards to the guidance which will determine how the new organ donor system operates in reality, and ensuring that Jewish potential organ donors can apply safeguards as they see fit.

“However, the faith declaration shows what can be achieved when government and communal bodies like the Board of Deputies work together, and we look forward to continuing to engage, particularly on the accompanying guidance and other challenges.”
