Board of Deputies President ‘Equity has lost the confidence of many of its Jewish members’

Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl has criticised actors’ union Equity for its unbalanced statement on the Israel-Gaza  conflict.

Marie said: “Equity has lost the confidence of many of its Jewish members, resulting in a number of resignations including Maureen Lipman who had been a member for 50 years. Most of the British Jewish community have family and friends living in Israel, and Jewish Equity members cannot sign up to the biased view of the Israel-Hamas conflict that has been foisted upon them by Equity, that failed to condemn the terrorist group Hamas against whose rockets Israel was defending all its citizens. No one should feel they have to choose between their commitment to trade unionism and loyalty to friends, family and community.”
