Board of Deputies expresses solidarity with Polish community in wake of Brexit vote

Board of Deputies President Jonathan Arkush and Senior Vice President Richard Verber today met with the Polish Ambassador to the United Kingdom Arkady Józef Rzegocki today to discuss a range of issues of mutual concern.

Issues raised included Holocaust education in Poland, restitution of Jewish property, the growing Jewish community in the country and access to archives for those researching Jewish heritage.

Following the meeting, Richard Verber said: “We reiterated the Board of Deputies’ solidarity with the Polish community in Britain in the wake of attacks they have experienced following the Brexit vote. We pressed the Ambassador to raise with his government the urgent issue of Holocaust restitution and the need to ensure young Poles learn about the events of the Holocaust and we will continue to raise this issue in close co-operation with the World Jewish Restitution Organisation. We expressed our community’s thanks for the friendship Poland has shown to Israel and for the Polish government’s commitment to safeguarding shechitah.”
